DORA ROAD

For this project we masterfully revitalised a dated 2006 residence atop a steep hill, creating an open and light-filled lower ground floor with seamless indoor-outdoor connections.

The Brief

For this project we took on the challenge of rejuvenating a dated residence from around 2006. The client's initial request was for a kitchen extension, but with the property situated on a steep hill, we saw an opportunity to create an inviting lower ground floor space that didn't feel like a typical basement. Our focus was on optimizing light, ensuring specific family needs were met, and enhancing indoor-outdoor flow. By strategically designing a new entrance, we transformed the experience of entering the house from a dark space to a bright, open hallway that beautifully connects to the back garden.

Elevating living spaces and outdoor integration

Our design ethos prioritized creating functional living areas that resonate with the family's lifestyle. We reimagined the ground floor, incorporating a spacious living area and landscaping that seamlessly blended with the sloping garden. A key feature was the introduction of external terracing that not only provided additional usable space but also took into account neighboring properties' sightlines. A versatile canopy allowed the family to enjoy the outdoor area even during inclement weather, enhancing the connection between indoor and outdoor living.

Personal touches and future-ready spaces

In collaboration with the family, we carefully considered their needs and preferences to tailor the design to their unique requirements. Our vision included a well-lit hallway that provides a striking view from the entrance to the back garden. This shift in perspective created a sense of openness and connection with nature, transforming the overall ambience of the residence. The integration of thoughtful details, such as the adaptable canopy, showcased our commitment to functional yet elegant design, ensuring the space was ready to accommodate the family's lifestyle and future needs.

Through our holistic approach, we breathed new life into this residence, turning it into a contemporary haven that harmoniously marries architectural ingenuity with the comfort and style desired by the occupants.
