RICHMOND RESIDENTIAL

A stunning residential home that needed the flow of space reprioritised to suit the families changing needs, as well as an interior overhaul.

Overcoming Structural Complexities

The canvas we encountered was a Victorian semi-detached home, frozen in time. With a stunning and expansive space this was a great shell to begin with, but we worked on reprioritising different rooms to avoid wasted space. The challenge was clear - to breathe life into a house that had remained stagnant, aligning it with the diverse paths the family had taken.

Creating a modern sanctuary

The architectural narrative unfolded in the form of a harmonious dialogue between history and modernity. The home's essence was retained, while an ingenious rear extension emerged to bridge the gap between interior and exterior. This addition brought the outdoors in, drenching the space in natural light through strategically positioned skylights and glass doors. A striking basement retreat defied conventions with its innovative light wells and doors, illuminating the subterranean space and reshaping its purpose. Exterior features from the original footprint of the house were used and highlighted as they became the interior, keeping the original charm without compromising on flow.

Personalised luxury

Beyond aesthetics, the heart of our endeavor lay in creating specific zones tailored to the family's lifestyle. We meticulously curated spaces that paid homage to the family's heritage while seamlessly integrating contemporary design. From the carefully designed off street parking to raising flooring to create seamless movement between different rooms, every element spoke to our commitment to enhancing the essence of daily life.

These changes not only cut down on 'white elephant' spaces that are rarely used in the house, but has already allowed the family to enjoy more effective and useful spaces for hosting family and friends, and relaxing!
