An overview
For this project our practice was recommended by a structural engineer for a prestigious office renovation project for a leading financial institution. Initially, the firm undertook a smaller reception area project that exceeded expectations, which led to the commission of a more extensive project – the construction of a new prep school. This eco-friendly building prioritizes sustainability, incorporating groundbreaking renewable energy solutions and natural ventilation. We faced challenges with resistant neighbors and planning constraints, which because of our experience we were able to skillfully navigate with close collaboration and innovative structural solutions.
Design and challenges
The new prep school project presented exciting design opportunities, enabling the team to create imaginative classrooms with inviting play areas. The focus was on neutral interiors, promoting a calm and conducive learning environment, while outside, the team injected fun and creativity. The design incorporated multi-directional lighting, solar shading, and northern light features, ensuring ample natural light and a dynamic atmosphere. The multifunctional space, including a stage and sports area, was acoustically optimized, providing a versatile and performance-ready setting.
Success and impact
The school received acclaim, garnering a visit from royalty and nominations for various accolades. Designed as a showcase for prospective students, the school's welcoming and innovative ambiance aids in attracting new pupils. Our commitment to sustainability, thoughtful acoustic design, and meticulous attention to maintenance considerations have resulted in an environmentally conscious and lasting architectural achievement. The collaboration with landscaping experts and structural engineers further enhanced the project's success, creating an outstanding educational space tailored to the client's needs and vision.
