VICTORIA HIGH END OFFICE 2009
Revitalizing a dated office building by optimizing natural light, modernizing the exterior with black-framed windows, and collaboratively crafting an elegant interior with unique features, creating a harmonious blend of historical charm and contemporary functionality.
Maximising light and space
We embarked on the transformation of a previously dark and cellular office building. The primary focus of this endeavor was to infuse the space with natural light and create an open, inviting atmosphere. By strategically repositioning windows and extending them to the ground on the building's rear side, we succeeded in ushering in an abundance of daylight. The introduction of balconies further enhanced the connection with the outdoors, promoting a sense of space and well-being. A remarkable black American walnut, steel, and glass staircase not only connected different levels but also served as a captivating sculptural centerpiece, enabling light to permeate all levels of the building.
Exterior redesign and internal harmony
In accordance with strict conservation guidelines and the building's historical significance, we undertook a thoughtful exterior redesign. While preserving the front elevation's townhouse-like charm, we introduced modern elements that breathed new life into the structure. The integration of sleek, black-framed windows added an urban and contemporary edge, achieving a delicate balance between honoring the building's heritage and infusing it with a fresh, timeless appeal. The result was a harmonious blend of historical preservation and modern aesthetics, which seamlessly coexisted in the building's exterior.
An interior transformation
The interior design process of the project was characterized by a close collaboration between our team and the client. We skillfully translated the client's vision for the space into a functional and elegant reality. This collaboration extended to the selection of modern furniture pieces that seamlessly integrated with the office's overall ambiance. Overcoming challenges posed by existing structural elements, such as reinforced concrete and prefab panels, the design team successfully incorporated new elements while maintaining the building's structural integrity. The result was a thoughtfully designed interior that catered to the client's needs, with private gym facilities, meeting rooms, and executive spaces seamlessly integrated into the layout.
Through a mixture of design expertise and client collaboration, we achieved a remarkable transformation of the office building. The project's three design elements —maximizing natural light, reimagining the exterior, and creating a functional yet elegant interior—came together to produce a space that celebrates history while embracing contemporary functionality.
